Gouache – Series

Artist statement

The experimentation with gouache and the subsequent body of work have been greatly driven by a desire to push the medium under more restrained control. Edges and shapes are more clearly defined whereas colour relationships are disentangled in the realm of expression.

Part of the creative impetus has found its ignition in self exploration.

In most cases, each painting has found its origin in the attentive investigation of a feeling, sensation or revelation. Images have been composed to bring that theme to life, sometimes through literal description and some others through a less overt visual language.

The adaptiveness of gouache has enabled each piece to come to its full colour maturity. Aesthetic relationships have emerged and chased each other to the surface in unique and unexpected ways.
